An American company Visa Inc. is one of the two owners of the international payment system Visa. It owns the trademark and applied technologies; its partner – the British Visa Europe Services is responsible for working with European banks. Due to its American origin, it focuses on performing operations in dollars. The company doesn't issue cards or grant loans – it only provides cooperating banks with the required tools and controls compliance with the rules of customer identification and payment security. The technologies appeared in the late 50s when it became obvious that a single credit card is more convenient than dozens of credit accounts in various companies. The Visa brand appeared 20 years later. The still living company's founder Dee Hock ran it until the mid-80s and then entirely retired from the business. Among the present day achievements of Visa is an introduction of contactless payment technology in 2007 and launch in some Asian and African countries smartphone applications “mVisa” in 2015. According to 2017 statistics, the annual revenue of Visa amounted to $18 billion with the net profit of $6.6 billion. All financial indicators show a steady growth. The company's strategy is to remain within the framework of debt, credit, and prepaid cards and payment systems and at the same time improve the service and attract more clients, including government institutions and business. Less than fully reclaimed Africa and Asia are of a special interest for Visa.
